After the Rain

It rained all day yesterday. Blustery loud rain. Soft drizzly rain. Rattling thunderstorm rain. All kinds of rain, all day long. The air was heavy. It felt wet, even when the rain trailed off.

But today. Today feels crisp, and bright and sunny. This weather isn’t unusual for April in the Midwest, yet it felt special.

What struck me was the fact that today’s weather felt so lovely compared to yesterday’s rain. And that made me pause and consider the reality that sometimes the moments of challenge in our lives provide a chance for us to pause. To reset. To be open to the idea that, when the sun comes out, we are more able to soak it up because we had to wait through the rain.

That feels a lot like what happens to us in our emotional experience. Especially in the last year, many of us have been dealing with a lot of rainy days.

Are you in a moment of rain in your social and emotional life? Please reach out and get some support. Let someone be with you until the sun comes back. Because eventually, it always does.
